Contingent Heroes of World War 1/ Opinions

Sir Apirana Ngata was a New Zealand politician who was a huge asset to creating a native division of the New Zealand armed forces. I chose to research him because he is very inspirational and was a very smart man. The top DLO is our opinions on if we should remember the soldiers of the Maori battalion. In my opinion I do not think we should remember them without acknowledging the other soldiers. These are DLO's we created to help us understand the text we are reading,

Summary & Feedback - Maori Battalion

In reading we have been taking an  interest in the work of the different forces that had a huge impact in world war 1. Rakino is looking into the brave native contingent (later called the Maori battalion). To help us get a better understanding from the text, we read the text as a group then we gave our partner feedback and constructive criticism that will help them in their reading. After that we created the summary. To start we found 20 interesting words from the text, then we chose the 6 most vital words from the 20 list. Lastly we wrote our summary that will tell you about the book we are reading. I have found this book very interesting and very surprising. Did you know that the N.Z. soldiers were sent to Egypt to train and they were bizarrely useful for building trenches.

How To Use a Protractor

Last week my partners and I finished off our DLO of how to use a protractor. A protractor is a tool that helps you find the angle of a shape or of a line. Recently we used protractors in our maths because we were learning about acute, obtuse and reflex angles. An acute is an angle between 0° - 90°, an obtuse is 90° - 180° and a reflex is between 180° - 360°. One thing I learnt by using a protractor is that the base line is 180°.

Angles - Multiple Rays

Today Sanujan, Tiava and I partnered up to complete a worksheet that was based on finding angles. To help us we used something called a protractor. First of all we found it pretty challenging because we were doubting our selves and we were using different techniques that did not work. After a while Miss Morris told us how to use it properly. After that we were either right or an angle out. We found this very interesting and a bit challenging.

Reading - Maori Batallion

Image result for maori battalion

This week we have finished learning about the Treaty of Waitangi and have moved onto learning about the Maori battalion. The Maori battalion was a group of native New Zealanders who fought in world war 1. 2500 maori people volunteered to fight in the war. At first they did not want native people, but when they ran out of British settlers they needed soldiers so they asked the Maori people to help. Their were mixed emotions and people who rebelled against the crown got their land confiscated from the government.

Treaty of Waitangi - Kahoot

This term we have been looking into the most important event in New Zealand's history, the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. The Treaty of Waitangi was signed on the 6th of February 1840. Over this term I have been working with Sanujan, Jack, Mataio, and Joseph. All of us contributed to all our work and they have all been done on time. They were all high quality. The last activity for this term we created DLO's and then challenged Mrs Anderson's reading group to try get all the answers right. Our questions were very hard, but the thing I found pretty tricky was when people would misspelled things on purpose to trick us. Doing these Kahoot's, I have learnt new things in a fun and creative way. This is the link to our Kahoot.
