Whare Hauora Blessing

Panmure Bridge School is the home of New Zealand's first Medicube. The purpose of this new building is to make sure that children are fit for school and that they get a sense of focus so that they do not worry about getting sick. Our nurses will carry on doing a good job and making sure we are healthy. Like every new building at Panmure Bridge School the Maori blessing took place early in the morning and as we are in kapahaka, we were asked to perform a waiata and represent our school. Our waita was He Honore which was a nice soft waiata that we sang to with just an acoustic guitar. We were all proud of our efforts and it was a honour to partake in this event. The Kaumatua went around the medicube blessing the building in Maori. We all followed the visitors into the medicube looking at the space the health nurses will be working in.

Do We All Have The Opportunity To Get A Healthy Sleep

This week we have been separated into READ groups. In my group was Jeremiah, Freeman, Nyjah, Mataio and Affonso. Our task was to find out why sleep is so important for humans. One of the questions we were aiming as a group was Do all humans have the same chance of having a healthy sleeping? First we we focused only on our group and asked if we have the same chance of sleeping. We all said yes, but that hadn't mean that everyone has the same chance of sleeping because we explored other kids around the world you don't have a healthy sleep like us. A kid in Brazil sleeps on couches outside and a kid from Cambodia sleep on tyres and picks rubbish early in the morning. By learning why sleep is so important for us we also came through a work called inferring. Inferring means when you read between the lines and find hints in the text to answer a questions or guessing that something is true. Sleeping is important for your mental health because it restores our bodies and helps our brains to make strong memories and process about any information. People who don't have enough sleep or have sleeping problem can get to trouble as it can lead to disease such as heart & kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke. Careers - Career recommendation

Today we have started looking at careers that are suitable to our areas where we shine. Some career recommendations pay very little but some careers pay a big load of money (This is N.Z. based). Mrs Anderson asked us to find a job which we were interested but we had to find one that paid the most. As I want to pursue becoming a lawyer I chose a judge. There salary varies between $334,000 - $490,000 depending on experience and their figure. To become a judge in New Zealand it takes 11 years. This is because it takes 3-4 years to become a lawyer (without PHD) and seven years of being a lawyer. To become a lawyer you need to complete a Bachelor's Degree Programme. A bachelor's degree is the minimum educational requirement for admission to law school. When at law school you need to pass the Law School Admission Test. Then Identify Law Schools and Complete Applications. After that you can earn a doctrine degree. It may differ depending on where you live.

HIIT Training - Term 2 First Training

Today's HIIT session went very well because we were all synchronised with the amazing leaders Tiava and Mataio and most of us achieved our goal which was getting our heart rates into the red. To achieve this goal we did star jumps, tap steps, and high knees. These are relatively easy in comparison to the other exercises that we did in term 2. What made our heart rates sky rocket was the fact that it felt like we did more than three of the sets and that the paste that was set by Tiava and Mataio was very fast. What helped us become synchronised with each other was that we were all in lines and the energy in the room motivated all of us to carry on and strive for excellence. We all enjoyed this session and Mrs Anderson has said that it was the best by far and looking at the results I think we all agree.

Tech Reflection - T2 W10

It is the last week of the term meaning we will not learn anything about cooking for the next two weeks. Today we have made meat pies which consists of mince and ham and a lot of vegetables. Firstly we had to cook the onions until they became translucent. After that we added the ham and mince to the onions. We then added Mrs Tuipolotu sauce with the meat. When the sauce thickened we added the thickened sauce and the meat to our pastry. We put it into the oven which was heated to 180 degrees and left it in there for 20 minutes. The pie was very delicious and if I did it again I would not change a thing. This was our first introduction to savoury dishes.

Panmure Bridge School Matariki Celebration

Today Panmure Bridge School held a special celebration to celebrate the Maori beliefs linking to Matariki. The Matariki ceremony was enjoyed by pupils at our school and the children of the kindergarten kids located next to us. We celebrated Matariki by sharing cultural group items, performances such as the drumming group, and students were all offered sausage sizzles. To start, every one sang our song He Hone Re. This was a really enjoyable song to sing with friends and family. After that the Kapa Haka group performed their repertoire and also managed to do the Haka. It was really great to see how everyone was really confident and representing their culture. Everyone was shocked of how Joseph (Haka Leader) started the Haka off. Soon after the Kapa Haka's performance we had the drumming group who were outstanding. It was really good to see how each of them were on the same beat. I think the drumming group did a great job because they'd only practice today for 1 hour. Soon we had the Ukulele group performing the song Lean on me by Bill Withers. This was a really amazing song which everyone was singing to. Our last group performance was the Pasifika group. In my perspectives I think this was my best performance I've seen today because of the dances and also the drumming. At the end we enjoyed sausages. I would like to say a bit thank you to Mrs Whaia Odie who planned to celebrate this ceremony and also to other teachers and students who help set up the celebration.

La Jument - France

La Jument is a famous lighthouse on the western coast of France. La Jument is notably famous because of the photo taken by Jean Guichard (who was born in France in 1952). It was a series of photo's with an interesting story. The lighthouse keeper of that time (Théodore Malgorne) had to seek refuge in the lantern room due to the life threatening waves. Théodore called for help and was waiting for a rescue helicopter. When he heard a helicopter coming to save him he opened the door and started to wave at the helicopter but he was completely oblivious to the waves. When he saw the waves he went back inside. Luckily for him he was able to be saved through a different exit. Mr Johnston had a theory that when he arrived at shore he was fired because of his reckless actions. Above is a DLO explaining who the author is, a little bit of information about the lighthouse, and the story.

Pro's & Con's

When you move into a new place there is always something not to your liking and not any different when your job is to look after a lighthouse. All the groups discussed what are the positive and negative things about living in a lighthouse. I think the most challenging thing to deal with is the stench coming from the full rubbish and you have nowhere to dispose of it except into the open seas but that is dangerous for sea life so you might have to deal with it. Although the stench will be hard to overcome their are a lot of positive like: fishing, it is a new experience, and my personal favourite the serenity. Above is a photograph that shows all the pro's and con's offered to you if you live in a lighthouse far from the shore.

Lighthouse For Sale - 140 Lighthouse Way

This week Mr Johnston has been teaching us about lighthouses in New Zealand and all around the world. For this activity we were asked to create an advertisement to help promote our chosen lighthouses we wanted to sell. I chose to promote the lighthouse located in 140 Lighthouse Way in Alabama. It has a house and a lighthouse. As this lighthouse is found in the United States of America I had to exchange the american dollars into New Zealand dollars. Also the United States dollar has a higher worth meaning that when you exchange the money it will cost more in NZ dollars than US dollars.

ASB - Get Wise

Today Jayden (an ASB representative) has came to talk to us about how to save our money and how it will benefit us in the future. To help us understand in an easier way we played a game which Jayden created a scenario where our groups went on a holiday in Fiji. Our budget was only $1,800 and we had to consider: passport, flights, accommodation, insurance, food, shopping, and activities. There was a range of choices with different prices and some would have a lesser value than the others. As our group decided to take the cheaper options we came 2nd but it was alright because we were not disqualified because we went beyond our budget. This taught us how to create a budget plan that will help us save up for something nice such as new shoes. The example that sticks in my mind is his coffee story. He explained that we can stop buying something we buy everyday such as coffee for a school week we can save $20 but treat our selves in the weekend. When we finish the school year we could save $800 which is quite a lot. This can be achieved by taking a non necessary treat out of your school week. Their motto is save some, spend some, and share some.

Chicago Sports Teams

This week Mrs Anderson has returned from the United States and we heard all about her trip their. As she went to Chicago Mrs Anderson asked us to create a DLO about the main sports of Chicago. The teams Mrs Anderson has chosen are the: Blackhawks (Ice Hockey), Chicago Bulls (Basketball), White Sox (Baseball), and the Cubs (another baseball). This DLO above talks a little bit about all the chosen sports teams and their home stadiums. My group and I all worked on one of the teams and we all finished on time.

Cape Palliser - Inchcape rock

Mr Johnston has been teaching LS2 about one of the most important heritage sites in New Zealand, the lighthouses found in New Zealand. Here in New Zealand there are 23 active lighthouses including the world famous Cape Reinga lighthouse. Every lighthouse group has been given a lighthouse and my group received Cape Palliser. Cape Palliser can be found in the South of the North Island. It is also believed to be the Southernmost point if the North Island. Above is a DLO tells people the most important information about this lighthouse.

Matariki - Maori New Year

In LS2 we are taught that learning with and from each other can enhance our understanding in what our learning is teaching us. To see if this information proves to be essential to our learning LS1 and LS2 have worked collaborative together to help our global audience understand the importance of Matariki to the Maori people and why people celebrate it. Using our smart searching skills we found information that helped us create a DLO about the seven stars of Matariki and what their roles are. Our group consisted of: Vayan, Fraidoon, David and I. Together we talked and shared ideas about the stars that represent Matariki.
