Schools and homes Should Have Worm Farms

The past two days we have created a DLO on what we can do to reduce the amount of food waste that goes into landfills. The option I have chosen is worm farms. Worm farms can make a huge difference to the environment and the food waste going into landfills. Worm farms are good because it can get people outdoors more and you can get compost for your gardens. This will allow the government to reduce the amount of money wasted on landfills and start putting the money towards people in need. Some other ways of reducing our waste are planning our meals, freeze unused food like bread or turn your unused food into a meal like rotten bananas can be turned into banana bread.

Presenting At Te Oro

Early this year I and some other students went to Te Oro (in Glen Innes) to present our presentations on Te Taiao O Tamaki. It was a bit scary and really got me nervous but it turned out alright. In my presentation I talked about the water shortage that happened in Auckland, the Omaru river and other things about the Tamaki area. The reason I blogged it now is because this is for my attitude award.

We have been reading a story called Water Worries which is about how countries are dealing with water shortages and how to save water. It also explains what causes the problems, the water cycle and what our future with water might look like. So me and my buddy were Discussing what we think. she is a very hard working student and she will elaborate if needed. 

People Living in Auckland Have Been Asked to Conserve Water.Why?

This DLO is about the water problems Auckland has been facing this month. We have put in links to articles so if you guys are interested you can explore why we are having these problems Stuff News,News hub,and Auckland Council . There have been floods which was one reason why we have these issues with our water. I used some of my old learning to help me create a more better and more informed DLO. I used my water testing knowledge,Omaru river DLO,and what is a river learning. They have asked Auckland to cut down to 20 litres of water per person and per day. This link will show you some useful tips on how to save water. We have been enquiring about this subject because we live in Auckland which has an affect on us and that Hunua falls is where we are going for camp.

For inquiry today me and my partner Josh have created a DLO on the positive and negative things people are doing to the Omaru river. Our information resources were articles from last year and I have been looking on other articles and other peoples DLO.

What Is A River

L.I. To identify and describe the features of the Tamaki River

For inquiry we had to describe the Tamaki river in exactly 25 words. I learnt five different words, mouth (of the river), source, tributary , meander and river channel. I found it a bit difficult to do it in 25 words but I succeeded with Miki. Mrs Anderson always says "We learn best when we learn with and from each other."

Water Testing

The school leaders, me and Sky were learning about the insects that live around wet areas. Sally let us experience how to test water, which was fun and very educational. She took us outside to play a game outside. Someone had a lunchbox in there hand and a person with a blindfold on had to listen for the shaking of the lunch. I really enjoyed the experience and a huge thank you to Sally from Watercare.

Water Cycle

For inquiry we have been learning about the water cycle with Mrs Anderson. Collection, evaporation, condensation and then precipitation.(It does not need to be in that order because it is like a circle, no start and no finish.) Collection. When it rains the water goes in to oceans, lakes and rivers etc. So the water has gathered the sky water and wait until evaporation. Evaporation is when a hot day comes and the water gets warm and rises into the sky. Condensation, is when the water vapour in the air turn back into liquid. Then precipitation or you might know it by rain. It happens when water condensed that the clouds can not hold it. Then the cycle continues because that is why they call it a cycle.
