Victorian Era - Steampunk

 

Last week we have been focusing on the Victorian Era and how steampunk came to be. The Victorian Era was a time in history where Queen Victoria was the monarch of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth nations. Mrs Anderson asked us to complete a DLO based on something from the Victorian times. Alex and I were both intrigued about the monarch so we chose to find out more about Queen Victoria. Queen Victoria was really short but she was a very determined and strong woman. Victoria showed unconditional love for her husband and when he passed she went into mourning for the rest of her life. After that I created a DLO defining steampunk art. Steampunk art is a blend of modern techniques of art and metallic elements that could be found in Victorian factories. Everyone in our classroom have all attempted to draw a piece of steampunk art and they all look amazing. I drew a baby fox with historical elements that defines it as steampunk art. I really enjoyed doing this because I do like history. It was a very interesting topic to look into and I hope I get the opportunity to broaden my knowledge relating to the Victorian times.

Scale Drawing - Maths Week

Last week it was maths week and to embrace this opportunity Ms Kirkpatrick and Mrs Anderson planned a whole week of measurement activities. For maths week we did an enlargement which meant we had to find a photo of something then transfer it onto a bigger grid. The grid is their as a guideline to make the photo we found larger and easier to draw. This year I chose a photo of Scar (Lion King). I chose him because I like villains and I found his stern look very mysterious. Like last year the ratio for our artwork was 1:2 which made the transferring easier. Our first grid which we drew over the original was 1 cm square while the larger one was 2 cm square. Art is obviously not my forte so the thing I struggled with the most was trying to find where I could start. I tried doing it many different ways but as I drew the back leg it started getting easier. My absolute favourite part of this procedure was colouring because I had used two different colours for his whole body to get a darker colour which looked great. Overall I enjoyed this one more than last years. As I compare this years scale drawing to my last years scale drawing I have definitely tried my best to improve my art skills. Last year I drew a basic minion and to make it complex I coloured the background with the colours of the French flag. This years drawing shows that I am showing more pride in my work and that my colouring is getting better. I found doing this scale drawing easier as I have experience from last year. Like every piece of art there can definitely be improvements so next time I would like to draw something which has more detail and requires a lot of colours so it does not look dull and boring.

Art Tech - Last Session

Today was our last session of art tech and to end a great orientation we learnt about jewellery boxes from the maori culture. The jewellery box from the maori culture is known as a waka huia. A traditional waka huia consists of feathers from the huia bird and has cultural maori patterns. Contemporary on the other hand does not have feathers from a huia bird and nor does it have carvings. Prices also differ because of the authenticity and the age. We were asked to create sections of the waka huia. The photo above is a Kiwi who is sticking his beak in ferns. That is the lid of my waka huia. A waka huia usually holds green stone pendants and special jewellery. The waka huia is similar to the Japanese himitsu bako. I really enjoyed learning something about a culture and it was fun being taught by Mrs Telefoni. Mrs Telefoni is without a doubt one of the best tech teachers I had. Thank you Mrs Telefoni for a great orientation.    

Tech Reflection

At tech Mr Pineda was teaching us about light, shade and shadow. For the activity we drew shapes then we added a light shade when the sun is facing the side of the shape and a dark shade when the side of the shape that faced away from the sun. After that we added a shadow to make a more realistic look. To make the shadowing and lighting more prominent we blended colours such as green and blue.

Tech Reflection - W4

Today we have finished colouring in our symbols and now we are transferring them onto our blocks. We had to use yellow and white as our compulsory colours and I chose three other colours. It was hard to focus as other students were loud. I managed to get 3 out of 5 symbols on the block. It took me a while because they are all detailed and hard to draw. I am not good at art that is why I do not like art but it was fun with Mrs Telefoni.

Art Tech

We have finally finished our digital personal symbols and now we are transferring them on paper. Today we were given a piece paper to put our symbols on. We created five squares on the paper then we started drawing. I have not quite finished all of it but I have already filled in three squares. I found it challenging because I am not good at art and I don't like it either.

Scale Drawing With Ms Kirkpatrick

In LS2 we cover most type of arts during the year. So for term 3 we have been looking at scale drawings. Scale drawing is when you find a photo of something and get a bigger paper to enlarge it. Before you start drawing, draw a grid over your found photo and then you do the same thing to the bigger paper but twice as big as the original. To help us create this piece of art, we used ratio's. Scale art is like a mix between Art and Maths. I like this even though I dislike Maths and Art.

A3 Flextangle - Maths Week

Above is my A3 flex tangle I have just finished. I really enjoyed doing something we don't do usually because it is fun and is very interesting. Maths week so far is going great. I am up to cutting out my hexaflexagon.
