As head students we need to make sure that our students know who we are and what we can do for them. We kept it short and simple so that they can understand it. We talked a little about how we can accompany them if they are feeling sad or do not have anyone to play with. We would like them to cite us as role models and as someone they can lean on. I express my gratitude to Mrs Millward, Miss Cockeram, Mrs Hiddleston, and Mrs Mclane for giving up time for us to introduce ourselves.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Ms Kirkpatrick and Mrs Anderson.

T1 W3 - Building Blocks
For maths, Sanujan and I created a DLO showing our working out of the problem 'Building blocks'. My partner and I have worked hard on this DLO and it was not easy working the problem out. This week we are learning how to find the area of a 2D shape, and the volume of the 3D shape.

The Climb - Stan Walker
Stan Walker is a critically acclaimed New Zealand singer who started his career by winning the Australian Idol. The song 'The Climb' is apart of of his 2009 album Introducing Stan Walker. In my personal opinion I think he sang this song because of cancer and his emotional problems that can only be expressed through a meaningful song. One interesting thing I found out about Stan Walker was that he has a tattoo on his neck that reads Ataahua.(Which means beautiful)

Venn Diagram - Comparison Between P.B.S. & Winter Olympics
Panmure Bridge School and the Winter Olympics have many things in common such as our values and that we strive to be the best in our selves. We also have many differences such as our motto and logo. Panmure Bridge School's logo has only two colours, grey and red. Winter Olympics is multi coloured and shares the same logo as the Summer Olympics. This is a comparison between our school and the Winter Olympics.

Thank You Letter To Mrs Anderson - Gold Respect
Today I have written a letter that expresses my gratitude to my favourite teacher of all time Mrs Anderson. Mrs Anderson has taught a lot of my relatives at Tamaki Primary. Mrs Anderson has helped me a lot, especially in reading. She has taught me how to write a good summary and has helped me understand a text better. She is also in the progress of training me and the other school leaders to be the leaders she know we can be. Thank you Mrs Anderson for being a great teacher in LS2. Click here for the letter.

Brochure About Panmure Bridge School
Panmure Bridge School has been around for a long time. Exactly 61 years this year. For my gold C.A.R.E. award I have created an informative brochure about belonging to Panmure Bridge School. At P.B.S. we have a hectic week every week. (especially the year 7's & 8's) At Panmure Bridge we have great teachers and hard working students. We all abide by the rules and show our school values (Confidence, attitude, respect, and excellence & innovation) around school. We have a team of school leaders who will work hard and be role models to our juniors. I put together some photos which show you what we do here in P.B.S.
Blog Commenting
Today I have commented on Chavda, Te Pounamu, and Tiava's blog. They all have very descriptive blurbs with a DLO or photo. It was very fun to read and see other peoples learning and their way of thinking. They were all unique in a good way.

Art Tech
We have finally finished our digital personal symbols and now we are transferring them on paper. Today we were given a piece paper to put our symbols on. We created five squares on the paper then we started drawing. I have not quite finished all of it but I have already filled in three squares. I found it challenging because I am not good at art and I don't like it either.

Inquiry - Winter Olympics
For inquiry we are focusing on the Winter Olympics. Already we have covered the mascot comparison, learning about the history of the games and the comparison between the Winter and Summer Olympics. Above is a comparison between our school and the Winter Olympics. Our school and the Winter Olympics have much in common but not that many difference in wording.

KiwiCan W3
Yesterday was our usual hectic day because we had to get everything like reading, writing and maths done before Thursday. On Thursday we always have KiwiCan. For KiwiCan we were learning about how rules keep us safe in school and in everyday life. We played games like hoop to hoop to help us understand why rules are in place. The theme this term is positive relationships. The motto is 'If you argue, sort it out, don't shout, work it out'

The Week Summary
For reading we are looking at the Treaty of Waitangi. The Treaty of Waitangi is an agreement between the Maori people and the British. 1840 was the year the Treaty of Waitangi was signed. The treaty was asked by the Maori people because the British settlers were not respecting the culture and the laws and customs of the native people. To show our learning, we created a descriptive summary talking about what we read in the book 'The Week'

P.B.S. Whakatauki
What is whakatauki? That was the only question going around my head. A whakatauki is a form of Maori poetry passed down by previous generations. At Panmure Bridge School our whakatauki is manaaki whenua, manaaki tangata, haere whakamua. It means care for the land, care for the people, go forward. This means care for the land our school was founded upon, care and respect the learners around you, and be confident in yourself to strive for excellence. On my DLO it talks about our whakatauki, and our school values which are C.A.R.E.

First Session of Softball
Today was our first session of Softball. Our Softball coach (Alison) was very funny. She made catching fun, and she taught us without too much instructions or made it feel like we were in a class. For our first session we were looking at catching and throwing. It was pretty easy. When you throw in Softball you have to have 'L' shaped arms. When you are catching you make a butterfly out of your hands. Me and my partner San Kyaw found it relatively easy.

Maths - Electives
This week for maths, we had a challenging task. Our task was called "Electives". This task is about a few students going to an Inter school and the remaining pupils doing Electives. For this task I work collaboratively with Sanujan. Sanujan and I did many different tasks together, but only a few of them made us think and focus more, this task was one of them. "Do you know why?"
Well there were some really hard question for example, 0.125 of 192. Sanujan and I decided to take risks in many areas and used some hard strategies that made sense to us. For example converting 0.125 into 12.5%.
To solve this problem Sanujan and I went through many hard strategy. Then we compared each of them and we chose the best strategy for each question. These best strategies we chose are the ones on our DLO.

Chinese New Year
On the 16th of February the Chinese New Year began. Chinese New year is a big deal in Chinese communities all around the world. The Chinese New Year is a 15 day event that has many activities. They perform Chinese dancing, they have a feast and they release lanterns into the night sky. Apparently this holiday came about when a monster named Nian started attacking. Then an old wise man told them what he was afraid. He is afraid of loud noises, the colour red and fire. This is why now they celebrate their victory by doing what their ancestors did to scare away Nian. Click here for my collaborative explanation which was written by Joshua and I.

Explanation - My Morning Routine
Writing with Ms Kirkpatrick is one of the best things in school. She makes it fun and interesting. This week we wrote an explanation either about our walk to school or our morning routine but because I do not walk to school I only had one choice which was my morning routine. This link will lead you to my explanation. Click here.

Presenting At Assembly - First Time As Head Boy
As usual I get a bit nervous while presenting and that goes for a lot of people. Because I'm Head Boy for 2018 one of my responsibilities is to present at our assembly every Friday. I only became head boy around two weeks ago so all of the things we need to do as student leaders are pretty new to me and every other student leader. During assembly I need to speak with more confidence and enjoy myself. I think I was nervous because we had special guest and because I don't like eye contact because I feel intimidated. My spirit was lifted when the netbook kept turning off. I think in a couple weeks I will be alright presenting with Tiava.

Art Tech With Mrs Telefoni
Today was our first session of tech. When we arrived we were like lost dogs. While we were standing in our lines one by one our tech teachers came and collected. My group (which was Y8 Group B) is in Mrs Telefoni's art class. During this orientation we will be painting, print making, and maybe a bit of sculpturing. For today we just made list of everyday symbols we see. After that activity we were creating symbols that represented something about us like our hobbies or our cultures.

Week One of Kiwi Can - Reflection
Today we had our first session of KiwiCan. For this term the theme is positive relationships. A positive relationship contains helpful and encouraging words. Encouraging other people boost their confidence and self-esteem. It also creates a positive environment and it lifts the teams spirit. To help us understand in a fun way we played a game. This game required team mates to encourage one an other and also good communication. Our new KiwiCan tutors Mr Matt and Miss Lily have started off 2018 in a great way.

Summary of 'The Pathway'
For the first week of reading with Mrs Anderson we are learning about the treaty of Waitangi. The treaty of Waiting is an agreement between the Maori and the English. During the 1700's - 1800's the British were the superpower of the world. They have colonised many countries that are now independent. The British used to buy land for things as little as a pound. A pound was useless in New Zealand because they did not use cash. British settlement had a huge impact on New Zealand. British people weren't respecting the culture and laws the Maori's put in place. The book we read was a timeline that lead up to the treaty of Waitangi.

Comparison Between Soohorang and Snow Leopard
This year the Winter Olympics is being held in pyeongchang, South Korea. For this activity we had to choose a former mascot and compare them to the current mascot which is Soohorang. The mascot we chose to compare with Soohorang is one of the three 2014 Sochi Olympic mascots. His name is Snow Leopard. He has a very interesting background. He was chosen because of Putin's (Who is the Russian President) concerns about the environment. These mascots were both interesting to learn about and they both are very distinct in a good way.

2014 Auckland Marathon - Week One
As part of our math this week Ms Kirkpatrick gave us a math problem to solve. It was based on the Auckland Marathon for 2014 and 2017. We have been looking at the average times for the full and half for 2014 and 2017. As part of the math problem we also had to search up the winners time for 2017. In this math problem we did a lot of subtracting which was pretty hard.

Comparison Between the 1900's and the Modern day Winter Olympics
Every Olympics are the same. They all have opening ceremonies and they all get awarded with medals. They always occur every four years. This year the Winter Olympics is being held in South Korea. Above is a DLO that shows the differences and similarities between the modern and 1900's Winter Olympics. In my opinion the most surprising difference was the numbers of countries who participated back then and how much it has increased over the years.

Blog Post - Statistical Inquiry
Our holidays are now over and we got straight back to work. Mrs Anderson instructed us to create a chart which was based on our blog post numbers. In 2016 I posted 159 blog post. It is a tremendous achievement (considering it was my first year) I also think I posted this much because I was just getting use to blogging. In 2017 I posted 171 blog post. I posted this much because I had more work to share and I set myself a goal. My goal for 2018 is to blog 5 - 10 posts a week. To show my findings I used a bar graph. Over the two years I have been blogging I have seen an increase in the numbers of post I blog. I am very proud to see that I have gotten better and I am not slacking off.
