NYLD - National Young Leaders Day

This term we had the opportunity to help build our leadership skills by attending the national young leaders day. People like Riley Hathaway and Lisa Tamati. They discussed how they overcame obstacles and how they got to the place they have been able to get to. I found all of them inspiring but Lisa Tamati stood out for me. Her run through death valley and climbing a mountain which was on fire absolutely blew me away. Her story will really help me grow my skills in areas such as leadership and determination. This was an amazing experience which helped me greatly.

Jacinda Ardern - Gold Attitude

Jacinda Ardern is the New Zealand Prime minister and is an inspiring women. When she was introduced to politics by her aunt she has been blatantly expressing her political views in places like Israel. This aspiring women had to overcome huge obstacles such as criticism from the opposition and the judgement of the public. People have also opposed to the fact she will be giving birth in the near future. Jacinda has had a seat in parliament since 2008 and was also able to advise Tony Blair (Prime minister of England 1997 - 2007). In 2017 Jacinda Ardern led Labour into victory by Winston Peters (N.Z. First) and James Shaw (Green party) to side with her in a coalition to form the next government. She is the second elected female prime minister of New Zealand and is well respected by people of all ages but received most of her support from the young people of New Zealand. She is also the youngest prime minister in the world.

Football - Attitude Award

A couple of weeks ago we went down to Pt England reserve for the football inter schools. My team never lost a game but we drew one against Stone fields. Our team worked collaboratively and came third for the year 7 & 8's. We felt so proud that we could go back to school and say we came third. Another positive thing was that we did not have to face our own school for last place.

Teaching Someone A New Skill - Attitude

Today I have helped someone with new maths strategies. The strategies I have helped Jericho (the person who is in the photo)with a division strategy, a multiplication strategy and a estimation strategy. It felt good to help a classmate with his work. Maths is one of my strengths so this really helped Jericho understand what I was trying to say. I really hope that Jericho has learnt a lot and he will apply the knowledge I have taught him in the future.

Presenting At Te Oro

Early this year I and some other students went to Te Oro (in Glen Innes) to present our presentations on Te Taiao O Tamaki. It was a bit scary and really got me nervous but it turned out alright. In my presentation I talked about the water shortage that happened in Auckland, the Omaru river and other things about the Tamaki area. The reason I blogged it now is because this is for my attitude award.

Public Health Nurse - Attitude Award

Today I have completed another activity for my attitude award. It is about public health nurses and why they are important. I think they are very important because they allow people to be healthy and they take risks of by putting their health on the line. They also are role models because they have positive attitudes and they are devoted people.

Céline Dion Attitude Award

The activity above is for my attitude award. This activity is to research someone with a positive attitude despite difficulties they have faced. For this activity I've chosen someone who I think is a role model and has a very positive attitude towards what she loves doing. Her name is Céline Dion. She is a very talented singer and was once a bully victim. That's why she has donated $50,000 dollars to stop bullying. In my DLO I have decided to talk about some of her past and the challenges she has overcame. At the bottom are some of her songs and some of the biggest hits during the 90's. She has a net worth of $700 million dollars.
