This week we have finished learning about the Treaty of Waitangi and have moved onto learning about the Maori battalion. The Maori battalion was a group of native New Zealanders who fought in world war 1. 2500 maori people volunteered to fight in the war. At first they did not want native people, but when they ran out of British settlers they needed soldiers so they asked the Maori people to help. Their were mixed emotions and people who rebelled against the crown got their land confiscated from the government.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Ms Kirkpatrick and Mrs Anderson.
