Fishing in Farewell Spit - Winter learning Journey

There is a continuous argument about fishing in Farewell Spit. This argument is because of a New Zealand native species of Dolphin called the Hector Dolphin. This activity asks me if fishing in Farewell Spit should be illegal. I think it should because Hector dolphins are the only native mammals of new Zealand and there is only a few left in the world. They are also the littlest species of dolphin in the world.

  1. Kia ora Jeremiah, Your reason on why fishing in Farewell Spit should be illegal is a really awesome reason. I agree with you. Other people in our school also agree that fishing in Farewell Spit should be illegal. You are a star Jeremiah. Keep it up!

  2. Hi Jeremiah. I completely agree with you people should be banned fishing. They can find some other place to fish. If this continues, there is a high chance of these mammals becoming extinct, after all they can only be found in New Zealand. Keep up the great work.

  3. Hey Jeremiah
I agree with you, the Hector's dolphins are rare enough without humans killing more of them each year. People can always go somewhere else and fish. Keep up the excellent work.

  4. Hello Jeremiah, I agree with you one hundred percent. It is really sad and people can go fish somewhere where they are not harming them. Remember that names of places have capital letters. Keep it up.

  5. Hi Jeremiah!

I agree, we should aim to protect them rather than risk their lives! There are lots of other places that people an fish that won't harm our sea life...
