As this weeks maths sessions were spent revising division, Ms Kirkpatrick's extra for experts revolved around division. It was a bit of fun and it really helped with my ability to answer division questions on the spot. I found this game pretty easy and my highest score is 8266. I think next time I should improve my speed time to answer the questions as I was a bit slow.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Ms Kirkpatrick and Mrs Anderson.

Three Way Venn Diagram - Bridges, Tunnels, and Towers
As part of Inquiry we were to finish off uncompleted work. Ofa and I decided to finish of one of our Venn diagrams based on the similarities and differences of towers, tunnels, and bridges. I've learnt that only bridges have suspensions and tunnels are the only ones that can go through ground. Did you know that only bridges and towers sway side to side. To make our DLO look more appealing we've decided to draw the structures.

Chocolate Egg Questions - Maths
Today all the maths groups were set a rich task to revise division. Most of our maths skills are well rounded but because there is a lot of people who do not know basic skills such as multiplication and division the set tasks could only be answered by using multiplication. To make sure we could explain our understanding of the question Jack and I put together a DLO explaining how we got the answer to one of the set rich tasks. Jack and I found this easy as we are both capable of doing basic math and our ability to explain the step by step procedure that helped us get our answers did not pale in comparison.
How to Tell the Time on An Analogue Clock
A lot of people have become dependent on devices such as netbooks and iPad to tell the time for them. People might view this as a joke but it is true and the reasons classes around New Zealand have analogues clocks is to encourage children to expand their skill set and be able to do something as simple as tell time on an analogue clock. This week we have been revising the structures and language features of an explanation. My explanation will hopefully help people learn how to read analogue clock. Click here for the explanation.

Venn Diagram - Waterview Tunnel & Gotthard Tunnels
As part of Ms Kirkpatrick's Inquiry group we were to finish uncompleted work from our previous Inquiry sessions. So Today Jeremiah and I have found one of our lying in our google drive so we decided to post it on our blog. For this task we were to compare and contrast the Water view & Gotthard Tunnel. I've learnt that both tunnel are the longest ones in their country. Its sad to hear that 9 men's lost their live due to work related accidents. Next time probably I could compare and contrast a tunnel, bridge, and a tower. If I was to do this I would probably pick the Sky Tower, Gotthard Tunnel, and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Note Making - Buildings and Structures
At the beginning of our learning of buildings and structures we wrote down what we knew about what they are and what their purpose is. The questions we were asked were what is a structure, who is involved what materials is it made out of, and famous examples. Their were a lot of famous examples as we hear about them fairly regularly. At the start we did not have a good understanding of what they are and we are now using that as foundation so that we can add more information.

Medicube Opening - Gold CARE Awards.
As head boy I represent our school at different functions and when visitors come into our school. This term we have opened our new building which is a place where students can have a private conversation with a trained medical professional without feeling uncomfortable. Just before the ribbon cutting Tiava and I fulfilled our duties by presenting at the assembly where we were joined by visitors from Star ship and people who helped fund for the building. This is the first portable medical cube in New Zealand and they are planning to have more. Like every special assembly I was asked to speak Maori to greet them to our school. I spoke as confident as I could and Tiava and I worked towards making sure that this assembly ran smoothly. During assembly we had a performance by our kapa haka group and some of our guests spoke. After that we all went outside to witness the opening of the medicube. The ribbon was cut by Sarah who is a nurse and the person who came up with the idea.

Tech - Hawaiian Pizza
This week Mrs Tuipolotu instructed us to construct our own Hawaiian pizza with our partner. To start, the first person received our pizza bread and spread the tomato paste on top of the bread. While they were doing that the second person then diced the ham, onion, and chicken. When everything was done we put all the toppings on our pizza with a bit of pineapple. After that we topped our pizza with cheese then we put it in an oven which was preheated to 180 degrees for 15 minutes. I really enjoyed it and it was one of my favourite to do since we started.

HIIT - T3 W5
HIIT has been going on for a while and we all thought it will be smooth sailing until the speaker did not produce any sound. This was our first technical difficulty but everyone kept going which showed resilience and commitment. Everyone did not get into the red area as there was no music which set the pace for us but it was still difficult. Our exercises were push ups, squats, tap steps, and star jump but we used the tabata style timing. This is when we do the exercises for 20 seconds and only receive a 10 second break between exercises. I found doing the push ups the hardest because my arm strength is nearly non existence and I hate push ups.

Food Technology - Sausage Kebabs
We have been enjoying our tech orientation for a couple of weeks and as it is nearly coming to an end we have been reflecting on the skills we have learnt while being in the cooking room. To show the skills we have learnt we made sausage kebabs. Our kebabs had capsicums, red onions, and three different types of sausages. The sausages were: frankfurters, cocktails, and precooked pork sausages. To cook the kebabs we baked them in a pre heated oven which is at the heat of 200 degrees.

Similarities & Differences - Auckland Viaduct Harbour bridge & Golden Gate Bridge
Today we have created a Venn diagram which compare and contrasts the similarities and differences of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Auckland Viaduct Harbour Bridge. The similarity which most people will not think of is that they are both built in Westernised nations. As Ofa (my partner) and I searched for information we found three similarities and fourteen differences. The Golden Gate Bridge is equal to 27 of New Zealand's viaduct harbour bridges as the viaduct bridge is 330 ft and the Golden Gate Bridge is 8,981 ft.

Why Is Sleep Important?
This term we have been working collaboratively within our READ groups to find information that will expand our knowledge about sleep. For this topic we have been answering the questions we needed to answer to create a presentation which will hopefully showcase the amount of learning and skills we have picked up along the way. Since the beginning week of this topic we have chosen a leader who helped us stay on track and made sure that we were worked collaboratively within our group. While we were improving our knowledge about sleep we all partook so as a guideline we used the reciprocal reading technique. In reciprocal reading we have someone who summarises the text, a questioner, a leader, a person who helps clarify confusing material found in a text, and also a predictor. While doing this activity we were asked to book our own guided sessions as we needed help with the question, does technology effect our sleeping patterns and also we were asked to choose a time where Mrs Anderson will help us learn how to infer. To learn how to infer we looked at the rooms children around the world have to sleep in and answered does everyone get a healthy sleep. Our group answered no as some of them are at risk of getting while others are always on the lookout for danger as they sleep in an open space. To summarise our learning we created a presentation which answers all the questions asked by Mrs Anderson. Today we showed all the reading groups what we have done and we all spoke proudly and we were all proud of our efforts. While learning about sleep we learnt that melatonin was the hormone produced in our bodies to regulate our sleeping patterns. I found this interesting because I didn't know that our bodies produce more than one hormone.

Inchcape Rock - Verse 2
The Inchcape rock poem was written by a poet named Robert Southey. The Inchcape Rock poem's main character Sir Ralph cuts the bell from the float that was placed their by the Abbot of Aberbrothok. Sir Ralph wanted to cause havoc to people who were seeking Scotland's shore. This poem turned into instant karma for Sir Ralph as Sir Ralph's ship hit the rock causing the ship to sink.
Kiwi Can
Every Thursday we go to Kiwi Can which is a place where we learn life principles and morals in a fun way. At Kiwi Can we started with an energiser called rock, paper, scissors level up. I did not enjoy this. After that we started talking about problem solving. When we were discussing and sharing our ideas we were asked to define problem solving. I think that problem solving is when someone is correcting an issue which is causing conflict between the people involved. At the end we did a general knowledge quiz where I showcased my knowledge and won against the people I was put up against.

HIIT Training
Today the HIIT group has been showing Mrs Anderson the massive improvement over the last few sessions contrasted by the first few sessions. This session was not our best as not all of us made it into the red zone which is what we strive to get. There is a range of different reasons that can explain how we performed today. I did not really like this session either because San Kyaw chose push ups and I am not really strong. The other exercises (star jumps, tap steps, squats) proved to be easier than push ups. Next time we all know we need to up our game and strive for success.

HIIT - With Visitors
Today was very exhausting and the main reason why everyone is so tired is because we had a HIIT session which consisted of high knees sprints, tap steps, mountain climbers, and my personal favourite star jumps. This HIIT session was more nerve racking because we were joined by the two people who run the research (Nigel and Jackie) and a representative of sports Auckland (Georgie). Everyone put a lot of effort in today and only one person did not reach the red area. We were all impressed with our efforts and it was truly exhausting.
Cook Island Language Week
At Panmure Bridge School we embrace and cherish the different cultures at our school and as it was Cook Island Language Week we learnt a little bit about the Cook Islands and the cultural beliefs and food that can be found in the tropical group of islands. I learnt a lot including who the prime minister is and learnt that the Cook Island word for raw fish (Which is Ika Mata). I found this task easy because I've been to the Cook Islands many times and I have ties to the Cook Islands.

Tech - First Week Back
Today we have returned to the cooking rooms to learn how to cook and be safe when in the kitchen. For today's session we made butter chicken. It was served with rice and it was amazing. Today I worked with Junior because of the absence of both our partners. Firstly we diced the chicken into pieces. Secondly we fried the chicken while our partners finely diced the onions. After that we took out the chicken and fried the onions until they were translucent. We then added the butter chicken sauce, the already fried chicken, and 1 cup of cream. After adding them we let it simmer then turned the heat off when bubbles started appearing in the food. After this session we only have two sessions left until the next orientation.

HIIT - Best Session
Today's HIIT session was incredible because everyone was getting puffed which is the main reason for these exercises. It was awesome to see so many people participate and giving it their all. When we compare our today's performance to the first few you could see we came a long way. The exercises that pushed us to achieve our goal (which was getting into red) were: split squat karate kick, mountain climbers, high knees, and star jumps. My favourite out of them were the split squat karate kick. This is because it was very easy to do and it really pushed us. Mrs Anderson was an amazing cheerleader and her energy was almost over whelming. As she always says energy given, energy shared. Also the leaders, Zane, Tiava, and Mataio were all great and they helped us. Next week we will receive a visit from the researchers to come and look at our progress.
